“It took me a long time to learn that not all pain is pointless.” ~Rebecca Rose (in It Tickled the Whiskers of My Soul)
Hello, Dear Bloggites! I know, I was supposed to make a post yesterday, but I intentionally delayed it for today because I am bringing you a special book review. The author, Rebecca Rose, emailed me offering her latest book for free if I was willing to give an honest review of it after I was finished. Of course, I do my best to never turn down a request for a review, but this one was extra special because I “met” Rebecca via email when she published her first book, I’ll Be Fine, and requested a review.
I loved that story so much, that I talk about it to this day! So, of course, I jumped at the opportunity to read her newest release, It Tickled the Whiskers of My Soul. This is the author’s third book but second published under her name. This book is a story of what the author has learned over time about life, belief, and self. The book is formatted into a separate “love letter” for each topic.
This book was written in a loving, intimate style that made you feel as if you were sitting with the author while she explained what she has learned from life. The pictures are a joy and will bring a smile to your face even if you think you are the grumpiest person alive. Each letter has a theme in it and the author goes into detail about what journey she took to realized that specific theme i.e. true self, fear, laws of attraction, intention, etc.
I loved that even though this book is on spirituality, it is not preachy or skewed to one view or another, so it is written for all to read. I enjoyed reading how the author found her way through situations and time. So many people do not view “bad” or “hard” times as a learning experience and I think this book would help people realize that even though the situation may be less than optimal, it is always better in the end.
I give It Tickled The Whiskers Of My Soul by Rebecca Rose 5 out of 5 Bookmarks! Great read for people looking for ways to deal with life. 🙂
P.S. THANK YOU, Rebecca, for the Honor of reviewing your book! 🙂
We have all heard the saying “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” but how many realize their own beauty within? In a world where beauty is worshiped as if it were a god, people have a hard time seeing what a beautiful person they truly are within. In this installment of the ABCs of encouragement with the #BloggiteBits Campaign, I am going to talk about your internal beauty and encourage you to Uplift B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L. in your mind and realize your own internal beauty: Brainy, Encouraging, Adventurous, Unconditional, Talented, Individual, Funny, Unashamed, & Likeable.
Brainy: Nothing screams beautiful than a person with a keen intellect. I am not talking about Pulitzer Prize intellect, but someone who actually uses their brain for good interactions with others. Being brainy and showing it to the world makes for a beautiful mind and people stop and notice it. Celebrate cerebral communication, it is rare to find and when you do find it, be sure to embrace and uplift the person who owns that mind.
Encouraging:How many of you turn away from someone who encourages you? No ONE! Internal beauty is found when you are encouraging others. Too often people get so caught up in everyday life, they forget to stop and thank the person who helps encourage them to achieve the next level of them. Being encouraging, people will see the beauty inside. If you come across that encouraging beauty in another, be sure to uplift their beautiful mind.
Adventurous:We all love an adventure. No matter how large or small the adventure may be, embrace your adventurous side and let your beauty shine. Being adventurous allows others to see the fun side of your mind. Adventure is meant to be shared with others, however, finding the adventure in all your situations will shine through to others. When you share your adventurous side, others will uplift your beautiful, fun side that shines through.
Unconditional:An unconditional mind is a terrible thing to waste. Finding someone who gives of themselves unconditionally is a true beauty, indeed. When you are interacting with others, ask yourself if you are helping in an unconditional mindset or if you are expecting something in return. Finding an unconditional person is truly worthy of uplifting the beautiful mind inside.
Talented: A talented mind is a beautiful thing. A person who uses their creativity to envision various different scenarios and play them out in their heads when faced with a challenge is an amazing person. Use your talented mind to find various different ways to approach a situation and you will see that others will realize your worth. They will uplift your beautifully talented mind and turn to you for more assistance when needed.
Individual: Be different. Having an individual mindset will help you stand out in a crowd. Instead of being a worker bee mindlessly doing something, be a butterfly and spread your wings and dance on the wind. In order to uplift your beautiful mind, you need to be willing to go against the grain and do your own thing. People will take notice and will follow your lead.
Funny: A funny mind is a beautiful mind. Life is taken way too seriously these days. Gone are the days of old when you did not have to worry about what you say will be taken the wrong way and out of context. Finding a funny mindset is like finding a diamond in a coal mine. Being funny will help uplift your beautiful for all to see.
Unashamed:Be unashamed of who you are and how you think. Finding your inner beauty means you know who you are and accept it, flaws and all. Do not apologize for who you are or how you think. You have a right to think the way you do and being unashamed of yourself helps uplift your beautiful mind and soul.
Likeable: Being likeable is a good thing. Did you know that just because someone is good does not mean they are likeable? It is true. Being a likeable person means that you automatically make people feel at ease as soon as you walk into a room. Having a likeable mind means that you have an ability to put people at ease with just a single word. People will uplift your beautiful mind when they realized what a treasured gift you have in being likable.
Keep F.O.C.U.S.:Forgive quickly, Occupy quality time, Circle yourself in positive energy, Use time wisely, Showcase abilities #BloggiteBits
How many of you have found yourself unable to concentrate on things? Have you been distracted from tasks you were working on? I know I have been guilty of the easy distractions of squirrels and shiny objects. 🙂 In this installment of the ABCs of encouragement with the #BloggiteBits Campaign, I am going to give you some pointers on how you can take those distractions and turn them into a way to Keep F.O.C.U.S. on the important things in life: Forgive quickly, Occupy quality time, Circle yourself in positive energy, Use time wisely, & Showcase abilities.
Forgive quickly:Forgiveness is one of those hard things to allow yourself when someone has wronged you in life. However, if you do not allow yourself to forgive someone, it becomes a heavy weight in your life and mind. If you do not forgive someone for wronging you, you are allowing them to live rent free in your mind. When someone is living rent free in your mind, they tend to take up a lot of energy which causes you to lose focus in life. One of the ways you can learn to keep focus on the important things in life is learn to forgive. Forgiving does not mean you forget the wrong that was done to you, it just means you are not going to waste your time allowing them to live rent free in your mind.
Occupy quality time: Quality time; we all need and lack it in our lives. To keep focus on the important things in life, you need to find a way to occupy quality time with yourself and others. Quality time with yourself sounds funny, but it is how you regroup and refresh your mind for all that life has thrown at you as well as what life will throw at you. Occupying quality time with others is just that, make sure each moment you spend with someone is of a quality value: complete focus, no distractions, listen to what they are saying, engage in their life, etc. The best way to keep focused on the important things in life is to occupy quality time every chance you get.
Circle yourself in positive energy: YAY, Positive Energy! 😉 A great way to keep focus is to circle yourself in positive energy by surrounding yourself with people who will lift you up and challenge you to become the next level of you. It is very important for people to feel validated on who they are and what they are doing. Finding people who have the perfect balance of encouragement and constructive criticism is hard. When you are out and about, be sure to gravitate to those friends who will be the ones who will circle you with positive energy.
Use time wisely:We have all heard the phrase “Time Management” at some point in our lives and it has its merits. To help keep focus on the important things in life, you should manage your time wisely. Be sure those you feel take priority in your life receive plenty of time from you. Projects, work, kids, family, and spouses-they all will demand your time. You need to use time wisely to be able to provide the needs of others as well as providing your own needs to keep you focused on the important things.
Showcase abilities: This tip sounds odd, however, how many of you remember that moment when you know you perfected something and it was witnessed by others? It is okay to showcase your abilities you have. Be proud of your achievements, you worked hard for them! Keeping the focus on the important things is also about feeling proud of your abilities and validating yourself as someone worthy of validation.
Celebrate L.I.F.E.: Laugh daily, Invest in happiness, Focus on joy, Envision a better tomorrow #BloggiteBits
Repeat after me: never start a new tradition during any holiday season! 😦
I must apologize for not posting this the day I actually posted my third installation of the ABCs of encouragement with the #BloggiteBits Campaign. Life does get in the way, but even though it gets in the way of our planned moments, it should always be celebrated, which is what I have been doing for the holiday season. 😀
As I have been doing, Dear Bloggites, I encourage you to join me on my journey and Celebrate L.I.F.E.with these simple habits: Laugh daily, Invest in happiness, Focus on joy, & Envision a better tomorrow.
Laugh daily: This is a fairly simple concept, yet so many people forget to do it. Laughing helps release those much needed endorphins that help a person feel good and relax. People take life so seriously and are in such a rush they forget to realize living is a treasure to experience and laughter the compliment to that treasure. When you are make it a point to laugh during the worst of times, you will find that those bad times are not too overwhelming to deal with. I always choose to laugh and dance through life rather than cry and mope. Remember, Laughter is contagious just like negativity. Which do you think is better?
Invest in happiness:Here is a strange concept, how do you invest in happiness? Happiness is not a tangible item that brings money in…or is it? Happiness is a tangible item that very well may affect your income. Think about people you know in your circle of friends who have success in their careers? What are some similar qualities they possess? I bet the majority of them are happy people in their personal lives. Happiness is a trait that helps swing the vote in companies that are looking to promote employees, especially into upper management positions. That old adage we all know, “You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar” resonates with this theory of happiness. People are drawn to happy people because when you are a happy person, you become more approachable. Investing in happiness on a daily level not only helps improve your mind, heart, & soul it extends to all other aspects of your life.
Focus on joy:There is a distinct difference between Joy and Happiness. Happiness is a fleeting emotion, determined by circumstances whereas Joy is a constant emotion, no matter what circumstances you are facing. Even though the two emotions go hand in hand, focusing on joy helps you see the wonderful things in your life even during the hard times. This habit is very hard to do because it is during the hard times that you can truly see all that you have to be joyful about. Joy in life is an inner glow that never shuts off and in many cases may be the guiding force you have to get you through a situation. Focusing on joy is a wonderful exercise to put you in the humble state of mind called appreciation.
Envision a better tomorrow: Egad! Have I just requested a habit from you that requires having a hope in the future! Yes, Dear Bloggites, I have! When a person can envision a want or desire, they usually find it easier to obtain. If you take the time at the end of your day and envision what you would like to achieve the next day, you help psych yourself to make that vision of tomorrow happen. I encourage you to envision not only tomorrow, but a better tomorrow than your current day you are having. By taking the time at the end of each day and envision a better tomorrow, you will be one step ahead of a positive outcome for any challenges that may be faced tomorrow.
How many of you, Dear Bloggites, have heard this song?
Now, how many of you have really HEARD this song? Do you listen to it and say, “Yeah, it is a wonderful world!” or do you say, “Huh?”
This song in a nutshell is just appreciating the life you live and the world around you…celebrating the little things, because if it was not for the little things, the world would be a sorry place.
The beauty of the world around you and the people who pass you by should be noticed if only to say, “You are someone to me.” Everyone wants to be appreciated for who they are and they deserve it!
This world of yours is what you make of it. You can walk on by and never notice the “trees of green…red roses, too” or you can stop and say, “How do you do?” Whatever you choose to do will cause a ripple effect to the rest of the world around you. This ripple effect, like a small pebble being thrown into a calm lake, will expand out further and further affecting all who are touched by it.
How amazing you could be if only you “see friends shaking hands” and think to yourself, “What a Wonderful World!”
Hello, Dear Bloggites! It has been a while since I blogged and I feel totally out of practice!!! I hope this blog is finding you well as you read through my randomness…a lot has changed since I last posted: I started a new job, met great people, have become very active in Toastmasters, as well as, all my other little endeavors! 🙂
I have met some great people along my journey in my UberGoofy World of P recently. Some I have become re-acquainted with since high school (long time, right!), some I have grown to know better from my church peeps to my co-workers at the new job (I LOVE my job! :D).
My Great Surprises along the way are just wonders of all things new…new outlook on life, new thought process, new endeavors in my life…so many great and wonderful surprises that I just wanted to stop for a moment and just jot it down to look back on and just remember…
My wonderful son, Travis, wonderful daughter-in-law, Tori, and beautiful granddaughter, Airy, were home this week. It was so wonderful to see the three of them. Only complaint I have is the week ended too quickly.
Airy has gotten so big and man oh man is she a busy young lady! She has this new way of breaking the rules without breaking the rules…her solution to Mommy and Daddy telling her ‘no’ to messing with something is to turn around, put her hands behind her back and begin walking backwards toward the taboo item she was told no to messing with! She is such a smart kiddo! 🙂
Travis and Tori, TnT, are awesome as always. They both would love to move here to Texas, but have to wait for a few more years due to the contract they signed with their home. Hopefully when they decide to come home for good they will both be able to find a job that will be compatible with the money they are making now.
That is pretty much it for now, Dear Bloggites, see you on the Flip Side!!!
In life you may come to a fork in the road….how many times, Dear Bloggites, have I heard that one? I say, how come we cannot come to a spoon in the road? Or even a knife?
When faced with the proverbial fork, people are expected to make a decision. Depending on the decision that is made, they will either go left or right. So what if it was a spoon?
When faced with a spoon in the road, a decision can be made, not to go left or right, but to slide up and down the sides of the spoon always to land in the middle then do it again. Yet, how about that knife?
When faced with a knife in the road, you have the option to take the smooth side or the sharp side with risks. No matter which side you chose, you will still be moving in a forward momentum.
I am at that proverbial set of silverware right now. No matter what decision I make, be it fork, spoon, or knife, I know one thing for sure, Dear Bloggites, I will always end up on top.
So I say to you, Dear Bloggites, grab that silverware set and strive forward with faith, hope, pride, and confidence….and remember….don’t forget that salad on the side…what else are you going to eat with the proverbial silverware set?!
So, to quote one of my favorite childhood fables…spit, spot, spout….this tale is told out! 😀
This past weekend was such a Blast!!! My BFF, Tracy, and I attended the District 25 Conference for Toastmasters for the first time!!! OMG…I met such FABU people and made new lifelong friends!!!
We were treated like Royalty…as you know, Dear Bloggites, and I AM Royalty (at least in my mind…LOL). We had great food, great games, great speeches, great presenters, and great people! I am so stoked from the information I heard and learned great things from wonderful people. Can I say it enough, Dear Bloggites, GREAT PEOPLE!
I am going to shoot for the International Conference (I had the pleasure of meeting our International President Elect-Michael Notaro) so I can go and support my fellow Toastmaster, Loren (he is from the division my club is a member of, so proud!) PLUS it is in Las Vegas, where I have NEVER been and have always wanted to go experience.
Yes, I cannot say enough about how fabulous this weekend was, Verna and all her assistants did a great job putting on a great conference for all involved. Chuck Menke graced me with the pleasure of working the registration table for a short time so I could feel as if I did a little bit to help and I met Miz Linda and Rose…two funny gals from the club Afterburners in Fort Worth.
So if you are interested in getting better speaking skills, meeting new friends, making new connections go to our Toastmasters International website www.toastmasters.org and find a club near you!
So, Dear Bloggites, I shall end my short but sweet blog for the day and remember to find your Wow Moment every day of your life!
